Yesterday there was beauty all around, but not so much today. Exit from Ghent was through the less salubrious part of the town, then I found myself riding on an ordinary cycle path running alongside a very busy road. It was safe enough because the path was dedicated for bikes, but the traffic noise is never pleasant and the scenery was unattractive to say the least. I kept waiting for my route to turn off through some countryside, but it continued alongside the traffic for the whole way to Brugge.

The route I had initially planned was the very nice LF5 cycle route (about 50 km) but when the map loaded on my Garmin it showed only 44 km, so I must have uploaded the wrong route. The shortest, most direct, route is often not the best.

Never mind, on a positive note I reached my destination before the temperature had reached the forecast maximum of 31⁰C and I have more time to explore Brugge which everyone tells me is a lovely town. But I will tell you more after I have spent my rest day here tomorrow.

    Hi Lilah.
There are some lovely areas of Brugge, but the problem is that the word has gotten around, so yesterday there were so many tourists you could hardly move, let alone take a decent photo without somebody walking in front of you. Decided to spend my rest day today by riding to Damme and back, which might be more peaceful.
    Cheers, Kevin
