Taroko National Park
Taiwan – Sightseeing in Hualien (Sat 24 Nov 2018)
Weather: 16⁰C min – 22⁰C max, cloudy, a touch of rain
“Seen it all, done it all, can’t remember most of it”
The forecast was for rain all day, but when I awoke this morning it was fine so I caught an early #1133A bus this morning from near Hualien Station to Taroko National Park. The Taroko Gorge was every bit as spectacular as what I had read. There are a number of different walking trails you can do, but the one I chose was Swallow Grotto Trail at Yanzikou. Magnificent!
Arriving back in Hualien at about 1 pm, I spent the afternoon pleasantly strolling around this delightful town. After 13 days of riding it was just good to rest my legs and laze about in my very comfortable ING B&B.
Tomorrow I have another BFD (Bicycle Free Day) because I am catching a train to Toucheng in order to avoid a scary section of highway (narrow tunnels with no shoulder and lots of big trucks). This time I made sure I am catching a Local train so my bicycle can travel unpacked.
This means I have only two more days of riding before arriving back in Taipei. The tour has gone too quickly!
Yes you have seen it all and you have done it all it’s time now to hang up your ?? and take up the other ride?Riding?Lovely photos yet again. Hapoy ??Riding and be safe.
Hi Kevin,
I have been enjoying your blog and watching you work your way up the West coast. bravo.. Its of particular interest to me as i fly to Taipei next Sunday morning, the 2nd December to start a very similar journey. I have three weeks so hopefully I have a chance to get under the skin of a country that wasn’t really on my radar until two years ago. I am planning to ride up the Gorge at least as far as where you took the bus. I’ve been told to go early as the traffic can be quite daunting.your photos show a beautiful vista all the way up.
Your website is so professional and easy to navigate. Have you set it up yourself ? I have collected my trips on WordPress but I need to get a better homepage for directing to the different places on the planet that I have visited. it all seems a bit hard but one day.
Thanks again for sharing, Jeff
Hi Jeff.
Thanks for the feedback, I am pleased you have enjoyed my blog and found it helpful.
All the best for your trip. I hope the weather is as good as it has been for me (just one wet day). I saw a few cyclists riding up the Gorge but it looks a bit scary because the road is narrow and winds around, with lots of buses to contend with. I caught the #1133A bus at 8:30 am right in front of Hualuen Station, just turned up 30 minutes before and bought a one day pass for 250 NTD (an orange colour building near Giant bike shop).
Good luck and enjoy.
Kevin
