A Day at Lords
Lords 2nd Ashes Test
Sat 18-Jul-2015
Pimms and Veuve Clicquot at the cricket … it would never happen at a test match in Australia! The cricket was excellent and Australia is in a strong position, but it was not all about the cricket. It was the total experience of a day at Lords … being at the home of cricket, the formality of dress (lots of suits, ties and stripy jackets), orderly behaviour, absence of drunken yahoos, polite applause, gourmet take-away food in the food village, classy lunch-time entertainment (including a great jazz band and a marching band).
I can’t believe I captured this moment of history … Alistair Cook was batting beautifully on 96 when he finally missed a straight one, the ball when I had decided to take my first action photo of the day. Amazingly I happened to press the shutter at the very instant the ball hit the stumps, with the bail still in the air. I should have taken my camera out earlier!
Altogether it was a fabulous day spent with my brother, just the best ever!
Hi Kevin, What a great summer you are having – I feel just a bit envious! We are having a ‘staycation’ in our house in Wisconsin this summer. I am enjoying gardening and watching families of birds building nests and rearing babies- so far a family of American robins and now a nesting waxwing. I spend hours on the deck with the binoculars and have become quite the expert at identifying the various species. I think I saw a northern mockingbird this afternoon – a bit out of its summer range, but there it was! Anyway – happy riding!!
